I took this saying: "the elephant in the room" and made it into my own. The origins of the saying means that people, when having a conversation are ignoring a problem, or conflict, that stands out in a major way.
I decided to make my blog title the phrase because I feel there aren't enough women blogging about their political beliefs, or life experiences. There are plenty of college women blogging about break-ups, sororities, etc. Heck I wrote about a break up - I am a girl after all. And when we get older, out of the college phase of life women tend to blog about self help, cooking, or being a mother.
I wanted my blog to be about societal problems, my problems that no one is willing to address. So I am taking it into my hands and letting the world wide web know my opinions. Is everyone going to like them? No. Is everyone going to agree with me? Heck no. But that is what's wonderful about America, we have the first amendment that allows all of us bloggers share our stories and opinions.
But there is one thing that is an elephant in the room for me, is that, not all women are feminist. I am not one, and I can list all reasons why - but I'm sure I'll make that into a blog post later. But I do believe women should blog more about their political desires, beliefs and conspiracies. We have a right to do so. Am I terrified as a young woman doing this? Absolutely. I feel called to address these issues or conflicts because I don't see anyone else doing it.
I want to use my writing, my blog, my hopes and dreams to connect to people who feel the same way who want to say all of the things I'm writing and spark courage into their hearts. I feel called to lead, and I am passionate about writing and politics (if you don't believe me, ask any of my sorority sisters or family).
Politics is always going to be the "elephant in the room" with many conversations between people. I don't want it to be one for me. So that's why I started my blog, that's why I feel encouraged every day. Knowing I could impact someone, spark an idea or conversation between people. I can change someone's life by eliminating the elephant in the room.
